源自中世紀拉丁語 incarcerātus,incarcerō (“囚禁”)的过去分词,源自拉丁語 in- (“里,内”) + carcer (“牢房”),即“放入牢房”。与cancel (“用线划掉”)和chancel (“格栅,栅栏后的地方”)有关。
