save, sabi (「知道」)的變體,源自葡萄牙語或西班牙語 sabe (「他/她知道」),源自saber (「知道」) ← 拉丁語 sapiō (「智慧的」)。
作為名詞最早見於1785年。通過西印度群島皮欽語借自法語 savez(-vous) (「你知道嗎」), 葡萄牙語 (você) sabe (「你知道」)或西班牙語 (usted) sabe (「你知道」),源自通俗拉丁語 *sapere ← 拉丁語 sapere (「智慧的,知道」) (參見sapient)。形容詞最早見於1905年。
