源自中古英語 funell、fonel,可能經由古法語 *founel(對比中古法語 fonel、古奧克語 fonilh、enfounilh),源自拉丁語 fundibulum、infundibulum (「漏斗」),源自infundere (「倒入」);in (「內」) + fundere (「傾倒」),對比布列塔尼語 founilh (「漏斗」)、威爾士語 ffynel (「氣孔,煙囪」)。參見fuse。
