詞源[編輯]

源自中古英語 daftedefte (溫柔的;禮貌的;謙遜的;尷尬的;無聊的;粗野的),源自古英語 dæfte (樂於助人的;溫柔的)[1],源自原始西日耳曼語 *daftī (合適的),最終源自原始印歐語 *dʰh₂ebʰ- ()。與古英語 dafniandafenian (合適的)俄語 до́брый (dóbryj, 好的)有關。

對比silly,其原指「很好的;無辜的;可憐的;弱小的」,但現在指「愚蠢的」。[2]

daff (笨蛋;愚蠢的)(過去式daffed)無關,但可能受到了其影響。
