繼承自上古馬拉地語 फार (phāra)，繼承自馬哈拉施特拉普拉克里特語 𑀨𑀸𑀭 (phāra)，源自梵語 स्फार (sphārá)。與古吉拉特語 ફાર (phār, “太多，過度”)同源。
